How to Choose A Word of the Year

Hey guys! We made it through and I cannot believe that 2023 would do us like this and be over in the blink of an eyelash.

I know that I am not the only one who felt like it was literally JUST February 2023?

It’s that time of year, so I have been thinking a lot about next year and planning and praying. This year, I am doing a much smaller version of the vision board that I won’t feel like I have to throw away when we move (see updates here)! This small version of the vision board is in my START planner. I love it because when I am trying to make plans, I can just refer back to my vision board in my planner to inspire me.

I’ll have to pull the planner things into another post in the future.

“Yes, yes, Lise, but what is the word???”

Courageous.

As in- be strong and courageous, as in be strong and very courageous. As in I will be with you wherever you go. Inspired by Joshua 1:9-11.

I am anticipating that a lot of the change in 2024 will feel scary and I will feel overwhelmed at times. This word will remind me to have courage in every single situation and to not be led by fear.

That is my word of 2024 and I am shamelessly putting it everywhere in my life as I have all of these big goals and big dreams for next year.

Do you have a word of the year?

My process for finding my word of the year:

What are the goals?

Have your goals somewhere you can look at all of them at once. Consider them as a whole. Is there a common theme? Is there something that appears multiple times (in different ways)?

What is the mindset?

What values will you need to accomplish these goals? What is something that you know you will need to complete everything? Do you need diligence? Will you need to be courageous like me? Will you need help from others? Vulnerability?

The word is usually there in your goals. When you feel like you’ve gotten it, write it there beside your goals.

What is the motivation?

Find a quote, scripture, picture, or item that inspires you to pursue that word. For me, the Bible verse from Joshua always makes me feel courageous, so that’s what I will have written everywhere alongside my word.

I hope this helps you guys! Tell me about your word of the day over on IG @dranalisedouglas 🙂

Love,

Lise

  1. My word this year is determination. I want to be more determined and vigilant about doing the things God has call me to do in his word.
