Bible Study Tools I’m Using in 2025

If you have been reading here for a while, you know that faith is a huge part of my life. I first posted about this about 7 years ago, mostly to show the types of pens/things I use for my own bible study. See that post here.

Through the years, group bible study has gone from a small group of women going through Hebrews in my first apartment to a really large group of 30 women meeting up and reading through the book of Revelation together.

My personal bible study has gone from waking up at all hours of the morning to get a little bit of the word in before my very intense medical school surgery rotations to taking my devotional with me for when I have a free moment in the middle of the night on call as an interventional fellow.

Now, as an attending, I have a bit more time in the word.

  1. Women’s Group Bible Study

For my women’s bible study, we went through the Revelation study by Jen Wilkin.

One of the benefits of this study is that with its purchase, you get access to the teaching videos, where you get to tie the week of study together with Jen’s teaching. In her usual fashion, though, she does encourage us to do our own study first.  I thought that the videos were really helpful because Revelation is incredibly intimidating to read on your own.

I also can’t emphasize enough how good it is to sit with other women and study the word together. It has been really beautiful seeing the way that all of us grapple with the text differently, the different insights we have from our own life experiences and books we have read, and just getting to know this group of women. It really goes a long way for building community.

I also bought the little companion Revelation book because of how much I love to destroy a book by writing in it. This way I feel much better about it since there are whole pages for writing notes for book destroyers like me.

2. Personal Bible Study

Since the Revelation Bible Study ended (cue small violin), I actually have picked up “Is God Enough For Me?” by The Daily Grace Co.

Who am I kidding? I went on their website and basically bought everything. This contentment bible study has been the topic of discussion for anyone who will listen to me ramble on about it lately. It has been such a good study and I thought it really was on point with starting with the root causes of discontentment and then walking you through how we become content in Christ. It is a 5 week study, but I have been purposefully spacing it out because I don’t want it to end. It’s that good. I may make a post about all the other stuff I got from their site and the reviews.

3. Bible in a Year

Also, when I have additional time, I have been going through the Everyday Gospel Bible. This is basically a “Bible in a Year” plan, but the devotional/commentary part is placed after the daily reading. PDT in the devotional portion is great for bringing things back to earth after reading through all the laws about sacrifices in Leviticus. Also, please notice the ubiquitous coffee stain on my bibles.

4. For at work

For when I’m trapped in the hospital, Daily Light. This book was gifted to me by a sweet friend/mentor. She is a pediatrician and she has been using this devotional for years as well. I have a little journal that stays in my office at the hospital so that I can write my prayers- I get really distracted otherwise and this is just the best way for me to pray right now.

5. Extras

The usual suspects: pens, highlighters, notebooks galore.

Time: I have been trying to work on waking up earlier- I have been referring myself to my own post about this lol. There’s just no time like the morning for me- I am not nearly as focused/effective in the evening. Ideally I would love to read the word in the morning and at night and really just bookend my day. I’m working on getting there 🙂

Love you guys,

Lise
